The original concept, illustrated by Dan Andreasen, depicted a little girl preparing to show a calf at the County Fair. However, Naomi redirected the story’s focus toward a young girl moving from the family farm to a big city, a shift she felt better reflected the theme: “I may not know where I’m going, but I’m sure where I came from.”
